Julie Kardatzke Architect
Julie Kardatzke (Card-AT-ski) is a licensed architect based in Spring Green, Wisconsin. She works throughout southern and southwest Wisconsin, including Madison. Julie specializes in the design of single-family residences, home additions and home remodels that are tailored to the needs, sites and budgets of their owners. She offers comprehensive architectural services as well as design consultation.

In her work she strives for a balance of beauty and functionality, creativity and efficiency. As a sole practitioner, Julie handles all aspects of each project personally. If you are considering a home project, I can help with a free Project Evaluation call. During this 20-minute phone call, I'll ask you questions to help you identify any potential trouble spots and determine the next steps to take.

It's a no-commitment way to make sure you're starting on the right foot. A 3D computer model is created for most projects. The model can be printed out as perspective drawings or viewed as a walkthrough or exterior fly-around.
Services
I design buildings from the inside out, letting the interior spaces shape the building facade, rather than vice versa.
I find that pleasing spaces are created by a well-organized plan, logical spatial flow, good room proportions, a connection to the outdoors and outdoor spaces, and abundant natural light.
I work hard to understand clients' needs in order to avoid unnecessary space, so that money can be spent on better quality rather than more quantity.
I believe that it's best to work with the forces of nature when possible, utilizing the sun and the wind to heat and cool a building naturally.
Sustainable building (also known as "green" or "earth-friendly" building) is an idea which has been growing in popularity in recent years.
Some people are drawn to sustainability by a desire to reduce their impact upon the earth.
Others are attracted because of concerns about rising energy prices and fuel bills.
Still others are concerned about how the built environment affects their health.
What is sustainability?
Sustainability as it relates to buildings has to do with reducing the negative impacts of our buildings by minimizing their use of energy, water and other scarce or non-renewable materials; reducing waste, and avoiding the use of toxic materials inside and outside the home.
A typical full-service architectural project includes the following stages.
The extent of services and the time required to complete the process will vary depending on the size and complexity of your project, your budget and your expectations about the final quality of the home.
A simple home using standard details will need fewer drawings than a one-of-a-kind home with innovative structure, unique details, and many custom-built features.
I also offer my services on an "a la carte" basis for clients who are looking for more limited help with their project.
There is no charge for a 20-minute phone call to discuss your project and how I may be able to help you.
This option takes an overview of your project and tells you whether there are any stumbling blocks that you are likely to encounter, before you invest a lot of time and money in the process.
Afterwards, you'll have the information you need to decide whether your project is feasible, what issues need to be resolved and what steps you need to take for a successful project.
You'll save time, be better prepared, more knowledgeable and have more peace of mind that you are avoiding unpleasant surprises down the road.
