Our home's roof now looks fantastic. Jason and his colleague were punctual, worked efficiently, and tidied up meticulously afterward. I've already suggested Jason Doherty to neighbors and would confidently recommend him to anyone in need of a conscientious, exceptionally skilled roofer.

Jason did an excellent job with the slate roof repair work. He did a thorough inspection on the roof, recommended a reasonable scope of work, and carried through in a timely manner. This really stood out compared with some other companies that tried to quote us with expensive repairs that was not well justified. On top of that the communication was great, the start date was pushed back a few times due to the weather but updates were given well in advance so that I can plan accordingly.

I have a slate roof and rubber roof and had difficulty in finding someone who could do a proper inspection with repairs. I stumbled upon Doherty Slate Roofing in Swampscott, MA. Several houses have slate roof in our town. I have to say, he did an excellent job in repairing my rubber roof as well as the slate roof which had missing slates and broken slates.
He also repaired the boston Saddle hips and the flat copper roof. I am excited to write this review as we need people like Doherty who can give us an honest advice as well as understanding this unique roof for repairs. I ready for the winter and not worry about leaks and ice damage for mthe missing slates.

Because slate maintain its composition for decades and the material is durable, long lasting, and beautiful, having a slate roof can increase your home's value. However, maintenance can be trying, since skilled craftsmen in this trade is few and far between. We were extremely happy with Doherty Slate Roofing's expertise and Jason's knowledge of his craft and material.
His pricing was fair and his services prompt and professional. In addition to matching / replacing slate tile he also repaired a leak on a section of rubber roof, and fixed tiles around a skylight.

I've lived in my old house for nearly 20 years. Every few years, slates could come off, or we'd need something fixed. I've struggled to find a good roofer who will do slate work and do it well. The last couple repairs were done with the wrong type of slate (color mismatch) and adding copper hangers everywhere. I just thought that this was the best I was going to get. I checked out the reviews of Doherty Roofing and I had to try again. Jason is a REAL professional. Self-proclaimed perfectionist who cares deeply about his work. He came out a few times to ensure that he sourced the right type of slate (a near perfect match!) and fixed all this repairs from years passed. As we worked, he explained his approach. I learned a lot about slate work - and even my house - from talking with him. He also installed copper snow bars to keep snow from the front walk. I *cannot* recommend Jason more highly.

Jason, the owner, does it the old-fashioned way, by hand, soldering every 3 feet or so. The gutters and much of the roof were in a terrible state and he had to rip out all of the gutters, the old metal apron that had 50 years of gunk on it, remove/replace slate and redo everything with copper and slate. He was meticulous and was able to give me advice on what could be saved so I didn't have to replace the whole roof. The amount of copper needed was huge and he had the gutters (100' on a side) made in one piece. For the copper apron he made each piece and crimped, the welded them. He was great to work with and worked very well with the carpenter we had. I didn't know I needed a huge roof repair until May, and by then most contractors were busy through the fall. All but one day of those who did come out to view the roof did not follow up with an estimate although I called them repeatedly. The one who did follow up quoted $30k for staging alone. In contrast, Jason got back to me right away with two proposals. He started within a few weeks and we were able to modify, add things as the work progressed. I could always get in touch with him via phone, email or text and he would respond right away. People would stop to watch the work progress since few people use copper any more. I talked with other contractors who gave offhand estimates double of what we ended up paying. Jason also does regular roofing, not just copper and slate, but he does it the right way--no junky tar or funky metal. He is courteous and professional and generally unflappable. He even loved my dog!
